If you know a tenant facing eviction, please urge them not to move out and to seek rental assistance and legal aid.· For rental assistance, call 2-1-1 or contact WayFinders https://www.wayfinders.org/apply-financial-assistance. In Massachusetts, having an application for assistance in process will pause eviction proceedings.· For legal help and information, call 2-1-1 or visit the COVID Eviction Legal Help Project site evictionlegalhelp.org/find-legal-help/.· Frequently asked questions and answers are here (https://evictionlegalhelp.org/legal-rights/tenants/). Financial assistance is available for homeowners as well who may be facing foreclosure.
Draft Town Comprehensive Housing Policy:
How is “affordable” housing defined?
Affordability is defined as 80% of the Area Median Income of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). Affordability is based on household size. The US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) calculates it annually: https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/il/il2021/2021summary.odn
Thank you so much Donna! Such helpful information.
missed that data that Gerry just gave, can he repeat?
The current Town Council CRC draft housing proposal is actually in the Town Council 08-23-21 packet, was discussed there, will be discussed more at CRC, and may be voted on at Town Council 09-27-21;
There are additional documents related to that Draft in that Town Council 08-23-21 packet:
How can the University become enjoined to develop more housing of the housing needed?
We should include Kendal-at-Home as an option for supporting elders living at home. For those who can afford it, it's a very good option.
Cape Cod Senior Living:
Kendal-at-Home provides health care.
I'd like to see Hickory Ridge acres developed for housing, affordable housing for families and/or elders.
Say it again !
“Neighbors” do that in other prts of the country. We could use “UMass off campus in a similar way or construct our own
Intergenerational living is an asset, a social fabric and supportive network that we'd be well served to keep in mind, given the geographic distances of biologically related family members.
With the application window now open for CPA funding, are there any folks working on a community housing proposal?

Same way any one does
Thank you for this informative and important program.
Lincoln apartments were supposed to come down yesterday and will be a huge student housing project on campus.
Are there examples of universities taking responsibility??
Hope they replace it PLUS add more.
Mary Beth Ogulewicz
There are examples of universities having senior housing built on campus and seniors accessing courses etc.
Hampshire was going to do that
I think just as fast as elders come into poverty housing wise society should catch therefrom falling, it means zoning is not the answer.
